I’ve gone and started a new blog, yes I know the world is overrun with them and you can already find my infrequent ramblings over at Mr Trick & Wrongtom, and though this might look like a blog it’s simply my news section. I’ve set up Skank Blog Bologna to indulge my love of punk-reggae, and post-punk-dub while Bill Brewster and I spend the next few months digging up spiky-dread specimens for what will hopefully turn out to be a very nice compilation, even if I do say so myself.
When someone told me they’d heard Rebuff on a Westwood video I was expecting to see Helly Hansen jackets and lots of bowing down “to kiss the ring”. Low and behold it’s in fact a clip from Fashion TV where said Roots Manuva Meets Wrongtom buffness was used to soundtrack the front row interviews for Vivienne Westwood’s Autumn 2011 collection, worth watching for Kanye alone.
Obviously if you’re not previously familiar with said track then maybe it’s time to get familiar – you can still grab your copy of the Duppy Writer album and Jah Warriors single direct from the Ninjashop so what are you waiting for?
There’s also some other Fashion related projects in the pipeline but I’ll leave that one bubbling for now.
As of tomorrow and for the following 4 days, South London will be overrun by the creme de la creme of ska, reggae and rocksteady artists. The London International Ska Festival kicks off at Clapham Grand on Thursday with Ken Boothe heading up a once in a lifetime bill which I’ll be joining alongside The Specials’ Lynval Golding for a roots of 2Tone DJ session on Saturday night.
As a warm up you can grab a free dub I’ve done of the festival main man’s band Pama Intl – as it’s soundcloud this is strictly limited so get it while it’s fresh.
My man George Burns here just stopped by to tell you all the good news that after what might seem like a couple of months in the wilderness, things are finally about to drop.
Just received word from Germany that the forthcoming Wrongtom Meets Citizen Sound 7″ went to cut today so that’ll be out imminently on Irie Ites. The single features my old microphone sparring partner Deemas J on toasting duties and the flip has a nice D&B relick from J*Star. Preview my version below.
I’ll be winging my way over to Guernsey for a live session with Deemas J at Old Time New Time Sounds @ The Townhouse on the 15th, not to mention some future releases from us both in the pipeline.
Back on the mainland I’ve remixed Jimmy Screech again, this time with a smattering of clattering pots & pans on my version of his forthcoming Divine single out in May on Map Music.
There’s plenty more to wet your whistle with including some whispers from the Tru Thoughts label. The Phantom Meets Wrongtom mini LP is just waiting for artwork, and there’s talk of a release related to a certain Mr Smith (not Rodney) but more on that next time.
And lastly the Wrongtom LP is slowly but surely taking shape, I don’t wanna ruin any surprises so I’ll just say I’m pretty excited about where it’s going, where that is i’m not yet sure, or when for that matter, til then, turrah.
Apologies for the digital silence but I’m back with a backlog of work raring to hit the shelves, web and airwaves over the next few months – there’s the usual batch of remixes lined up, and a couple of new projects in the pipeline, and some of you may be pleased to hear that my 1st official Wrongtom LP is finally underway. Unfortunately I can’t play you any of this stuff just yet but in the meantime you can have a look at this…
Late last year the good people of Shimmy Shimmy told me they were bucking the trend of faltering print media by putting together a zine dedicated to dancehall music and culture, I’d be excited about this anyway but they also asked me to do an interview which you can read if you purchase a copy from the link above. It’s small but perfectly formed and well worth your pounds and pence if you like this sort of thing.
