Just heard the good news that the Wa Do Dance 7″ has finally reached UK shores/stores. If you haven’t yet grabbed a copy, get yourself over to Fat City where it’s gone straight in at number 1 on their reggae chart.
In other news, having not long emerged from my post Soundwave coma, where I spent my time being chased by dogs, eating fish and rocking the Croatian coastline, I’m now knocking up a mixtape for Brainer Magazine before I get my teeth in to the remainder of my own LP (there’s a fair amount of remainder so don’t get your hopes up for the next few months).
I’ve had a few well earned weeks off from this djing lark but tonight it’s back to the grind and what better way to blow out the old cobwebs than a trip to Oxford for a one-foot skank with the good folks of Skylarkin Soundsystem?
As it’s also carnival weekend in East Oxford, the nice people of SNSBL DNCHL (pronounced “Sensible Dancehall)” got in touch for a brief (tw)interview which you can read here.
The rest of this month is looking busy on the gig front with sets at Soundwave Festival in Croatia, Vintage Festival at South Bank and I’ll be playing a nice mellow soul-jazz selection at Big Chill Bar this Sunday from 6pm if you’re in the neighbourhood.
And if you haven’t yet grabbed my Dub Pistols and Hard-Fi remixes then what are you waiting for?
I have some good news and some bad news today. The good news is the Dub Pistols “Rehash” album is finally out, which means I’ve yet another remix for you to get your hands on.
Last year I was invited to rework their hiphop-reggae bubbler “6 Months” featuring UK rap legend Rodney P and the cool ruler Gregory Isaacs. I was actually working on this when I heard the sad news that Isaacs had died so I split the mix into two parts, a full vocal version entitled Wrongtom Meets The Riddim Killa and a dub bringing Gregory’s vocal to the forefront under the name Wrongtom Meets The Cool Ruler.
The bad news is only one of them is available, the full vocal version features on Rehash (under the erroneous title “Wrong Tom’s Killa Remix”) alongside some other sterling mixes from Bushwacka, Dogtown Clash and a Nice Up collab by Dj Shepdog and Adam Prescott.
I’m a little miffed that the dub didn’t make the final cut but I’m not complaining as at least one of them is out there and I’m proud to have been responsible for the last ever official reggae production featuring the cool ruler. The other bad news is it’s only available on digital but if that doesn’t phase you, grab it on mp3 from Juno and iTunes.
This somehow almost passed me by but luckily I was reminded in the nick of time that the new Hard-Fi single is out today. Yes the boys are back and as ever they come toting a Wrongtom dub on the flip of the Good For Nothing 7″.
You can expect yet more of my crusty old Casio dubbing, taking their 99 problems way back to ‘85. Pick it up from the usual places such as Piccadilly, Norman, Juno on 7″ or Amazon, HMV and iTunes for the MP3. Check it out in full below.
I’ve also been holed up in the studio with my muckah Deemas J of Wa Do Dance fame so expect to see a new release off the back of that in the coming months.
I’ve just heard word that a big stack of vinyl has arrived at Irie Ites towers over in Hamburg which means you can now grab yourself a copy of my rework of Citizen Sound’s “Wa Do Dub” featuring Ammoye and Deemas J. Have a listen below if you haven’t already and don’t forget there’s a wicked J*Star D&B relick on the flip.
I’ll let you know when it hits UK shores as soon as I know but if you can’t wait, you can grab it from One Drop music today! And if you like the sound of this 7″, there’s future material with Deemas J in the works, so as ever – keep em peeled.
