Easy listening…

October 3rd, 2011

easy listeningIf you’ve been following my sporadic blog posts about punk-reggae, scratchy dub and uneasy skanking over at Skank Blog Bologna you might want to give my new mix a blast. It’s a sketchy selection of seven inches, hand picked for Interesting Blends as part of their Seven Steps To Better Listening mix series, partake and download here.

In other news I can now announce we’re finished in the studio recording vocals for the forthcoming Wrongtom Meets Deemas J album. I’ll be spending the next few weeks married to the mixing desk, knee deep in tape loops, bleeps and clicks echoing through my head as I try and drop off every night, in an effort to get it in the shops as soon as I can. More info on it’s actual release to come but next spring seems likely with a single dropping imminently.

And of course if you’ve forgotten or you’re simply unaware of what I’m on about, here’s our last collaboration which you can still pick up on 7″ if you’re that way inclined.

Tell ‘em about the honey…

September 22nd, 2011

honeyAs I take a tea break from yet another remix, I’ve got just enough time to furnish you with some footage taken at Brick Lane Music Festival last Sunday. I dropped in on the Disco Shed crew for a sweaty session at Big Chill Bar aided and abetted by MC Honey Brown. A wild time ensued with none other than Gary Beadle aka eastender Paul Truman aka UK rap godfather Pretty Boy G making some shapes in the ramjammed dance.

Marvel below at Honey’s microphone dexterity while I get busy on the faders, wearing an inappropriate cricket sweater and collapsed quiff combo.

I’ve got some big news on the way but I’m afraid I can’t say what just yet. So until that cat’s out the bag I must bid you farewell, and if you haven’t been following the all new Mr Trick & Wrongtom show, the latest one’s up on mixcloud and itunes for your aural delectation.

Duppy Birthday

September 6th, 2011

rodders duppyIt’s birthday week here at Chez Wrong as it’s been a year since Duppy Writer hit the shelves, and what a year it’s been.

To mark this moment I’ve decided to round up all the nice people who parted with their hard earned cash to procure a copy, so if that’s you, you can now become an official member of the Duppy Writer Owners Club simply by adding your picture proof to the Wrongtom facebook page, and feel free to get creative with your evidence.

And the celebrating doesn’t stop there. Cast your minds back to 2009… two intrepid pioneers of the radio waves were cruelly cast out of the Resonance FM fold. Left to wander the London streets aimlessly, these destitute disc jockeys were left jonesing for a digipac promo of shit electro remixes and a mic to air their musical grievances.

Then along came the good samaritans at Fly53 who took them in, burnt their sodden clothes and gave them a jacuzzi, and therein the Mr Trick & Wrongtom show was reborn.

Tune in on Ustream every Wednesday at 7pm GMT via our swanky new site and even listen to our shambolic test run from last week if you don’t know what this is all about.

Til Wednesday – adieu.

Brains or face?

August 18th, 2011

braaaaiiiinsAh yes, the eternal struggle, looks vs brains, style vs substance. Fortunately this has absolutely nothing to do with today’s news bulletin, instead, you don’t have to make a choice as you can partake in both.

1st of all, in the looks department, I’ve finally pulled my finger out and started an official Wrongtom Facebook page, so get your “like” on and run come follow me, if that kind of thing takes your fancy.

Then once you’ve finished with that, get yourself over to Brainer Magazine who got me talking about everything from films about food to dancehall tracks about satan. They also asked me to put together a mixtape – 45 mins worth of 90’s dancehall, so use your brain and click here to find out more.

Smoke Em If You Got Em

August 12th, 2011

sonyI’ve just got word from Big Dada HQ that along with thousands of other records which were lost in the Sony DADC fire on Monday, the remaining copies of Duppy Writer also went up in smoke.

As sad as this makes me, I’m not ready to get my Daily Mail on and knee-jerk my way to a moral high ground but it would be nice if folks showed their support for the Big Dada/Ninja Tune camp who are currently working their arses off to get on top of the situation.

If you still haven’t yet got your copy of Duppy Writer, grab it digitally direct from the Ninja Shop and maybe pick up something else while you’re there, and remember there were a whole host of other great labels who were affected, so get your plastic out and support the independent music scene or you’ll be hearing Cher LLoyd at number one for years to come.
