As is often the case, I planned on making 1 dub album this year and instead 3 come along at once. What I didn’t expect was the last in the queue being the first to be released as I was charged with the almighty task of versioning the new Roots Manuva LP “Slime & Reason” in 9 days. Never one to shy away from a challenge (and a viable excuse to stay up past my bed time for over a week), I put Mr Manuva through my Roland RE201 blender which soon spat out 7 dubs to be released under the name Roots Manuva Meets Wrongtom “Slime & Version”. It’s almost all replayed by The Stoneleigh Mountain Rockers with a smattering of assistance from my good friends Greg Lego and Jay Bharadia, and it’ll be hitting the shops as part of the ltd edition CD available from Sep 1st. For those of you who can’t wait, listen in here

It’s been tough juggling homelessness and a gargantuan workload but everyone can relax now as there’s a roof over my head and the Pama album will be in the can by sundown. For some reason I thought a trip to the pictures would be a suitable respite from making dub records but perhaps Dub Echoes wasn’t the best choice, it’s well worth a watch though. Something else which I deem worthy of your precious time is my latest mix Dang In Digital, plus the Last Days Of Disco people have kindly housed my Dumb Down The Disco mix so grab that if you haven’t already, it’s received a blessing from Bill Brewster himself so it can’t be half bad, he’s also asked me to put together one of his patented Mystery Mixes so I’ll be all over that once I’m done with my current Rootical Manuvas (and if I was any more candid about that I’d be actually telling you).

Yep there’s nothing strictly on offer here today but I hate letting a month pass without at least one post to make it seem like I’m being proactive.
The good news is there’s plenty of stuff on the way and here it goes in bullet point form…
- “Dislocated Disco” is a re-edited and extended version of my Dumb Down The Disco mix i put together for Brighton’s Juice FM a month or so back. It’ll be online for the download early August with added tracks and even more disco-dubbing, plus some nice artwork for your ipod.
- “Dang In Digital” came to fruition when my radio compatriot Mr Trick scrutinized the possibility of a good digital dub record so I knocked together an hours worth of them just to prove that digi doesn’t necessarily mean dicky. This will be featured some time in the next few weeks as the 3rd installment of Trick’s patented Dang In Dub series.
- “Pama Intl meets Wrongtom” has been mentioned a fair few times on here I know but it’s almost in the can. I’ve gone a little off the rails from excessive tape echo usage but hopefully i’ll be back to health in time for it’s autumn release. Also the Rockers Revolt site is now up and running so check it out.
- “Dumb In Dub” wraps things up for now as I’m currently compiling tracks for a kind of follow up to the afore mentioned Dumb Down The Disco mix. The premise is simple - dirty punks making scruffy dub records featuring more of the usual space echo niceness. Maybe I’ll pass it over to Trick to add to his Dang series in which case it may wind up renamed Dang Down The Pub.

Whilst knocking up a nasty remix for my friend Mindlobster a month or so back I decided I wasn’t content with my 10 or so aliases and bands I play with and invited Greg Lego from Coco Beware to come and lay down some jilted guitar. In an instant we were struck with what a flamboyantly dressed Sean Connery once described as the quickening and the world (or at least the 10 square feet of the world my studio occupies) hasn’t been the same since. Add to the equation our neanderthal friend Ray Rotello who’s been described in some circles as the homo genus of dick head disco drumming, and this trio of post punk disco dubsters is complete.
Check out the fruits of our recent Tuesday night sleep over where the the merits of sleep and general well being were in fact traded for last minute mixdowns so as to meet an early morning deadline. The Inconsolables “Hoverfly (Wrongtom’s Violent 80 Bastardization)” is up at The Violent 80 with the Mindlobster mix coming very soon. It’ll be out soon on Jealous Tony Records but feel free to listen now and add us if you’re that way inclined.

A new month brings with it a new podcast and this time it’s the Trick & Tom soundtrack extravaganza. If you missed it live on air last Friday you can grab it now “yust like that” as Charles Dance once said to Eddie Murphy.
The sad news is Rhythm Incursions will be parting company with Resonance FM but it looks like we may be going weekly with the Trick & Tom sessions if they can find a more convenient time slot to fit around Trick’s day job and my lust for scones.
I’m still flat out with remix upon remix, a plethora of mixtapes, the Rockers album and rehearsing to get Coco Beware out on stage but I still found time for a quick phone chat with Bev Sage from the Techno Twins earlier, leaving me just a little starstruck after she sang a few notes from Donald & Julie Go Boating. Who knows, maybe there’ll be some wrong renditions of Falling In love Again but more on that later.
